The Result
In a paper published in Nature Climate Change in 2022, the research team said, "When analyzing the frequency of tropical cyclones from 1850 to 2012, we found that the number of tropical cyclones in the world decreased by 13% in the 20th century compared to the pre-20th century (1850 to 1900)." Tropical cyclones, which occurred more than 100 per year before industrialization, began to decrease in the 20th
century and decreased to 80 per year. In particular, since 1950, when climate change accelerated, the frequency of tropical cyclone has decreased sharply by 23%.

Why?
The decline in tropical cyclone is largely attributable to two major atmospheric circulations: the Walker and Hadley circulations. As the climate warms, the Hadley circulation and the Walker circulation weaken, causing less air to mix at various elevations and drying the atmosphere, creating adverse conditions for the formation of tropical cyclone.
